You Always Said…

Trigger Warning: The poem contains incidents of self-harm

*****

When the flowers lay crushed on the ground

It was an accident you said

*

When the succulents began to die in succession

It was an accident you said

*

When the pages of the books were found in the bin

It was an accident you said

*

When salt & sugar, coffee & tea tasted the same

It was an accident you said

*

When the windows stained with crimson

It was an accident you said

*

When words stretched into endless silences

It was an accident you said

*

When the blade of the knife sliced through the skin

It was an accident you said

*

When stitches meant sewing up wounds

It was an accident you said

*

When full sleeves no longer hid the scars

It was an accident you said

*

When days and nights merged into an endless void

It was an accident you said

*

When the hospital bed seemed a new home

It was an accident you said

*

When the earth enveloped you forever

It was an accident you said
